the osteopath |

|
Ian is a qualified osteopath, and registered with the General
Osteopathic Council in 1999.
He has just moved down from Bristol (see more info here) and brings a wide range of skills and experience to his work here in Southampton. As you can read below, these include the skills of osteopathy, sports massage, and understanding of the alexander technique and various rehabiliation skills and prevention strategies - all brought together into the same room as he works with his patients.
background: Ian has considerable experience working with sports men and women, and
acted as consultant sports massage therapist to various professional athletes
and teams including Bristol Rovers and Bristol Rugby Club. He has also
worked with the New Zealand cricket team and the GB Weight lifting teams.
He was tutored by Mark Zambarda, massage therapist to many elite athletes
(including Linford Christie and Colin Jackson), and Viv Lancey.
Ian trained in stress management with the Stress Management Training Institute.
He is now a qualified teacher in this field, holding a Teacher's Certificate
accredited by the University of Greenwich.
Because of his belief in preventative healthcare, he has studied the Alexander
Technique for over fourteen years.
He has undergone extensive training in core stability work and offers
the highest quality training both to professional athletes and the general
public alike.
He also trained with the ICAK as an Applied Kinesiologist and adds this
skill to his diagnostic and treatment plans.
health beliefs:
Because of the diversity of Ian's training he can offer a wide variety
of osteopathic, body-work skills and advice on preventative healthcare.
He has a strong holistic approach to health. His aim is to help the body's
own healing system provide rebalance and 'wellness' throughout its entire
systems. To this end he views the individual through the windows of the
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. When any of these areas becomes
unbalanced, due to unnecessary stresses and strains, the person begins
to suffer ill health in varying degrees (minor/major, acute/chronic).
Providing balance and mobility using a combination of skills, gives the
body the opportunity to heal itself, and the person to experience wholeness.
experience:
Ian started off his working life as a PE teacher, and brings this skill of facilitating
learning to all he does. In addition to the above he has worked for:
- six years in a busy GP medical practice in North Bristol.
- the BRI Pain Management programme.
- the Bristol General Hospital
- has several clients in Bristol's business community offering stress
management consultancy.
- has run several 10-week Stress Management classes, both privately and
for the medical centre.
- for many years he has worked at the Bristol Cancer Help Centre (now
called Penny Brohn Cancer Care), working as part of the therapy team developing
various aspects of PNI (pyscho-neuro-immunology) with clients.
ian has taught: several courses in Sports Massage for the Bristol circus school, Circomedia; a two-year remedial massage course and osteopathic technique at
the School of Osteopathic Education.
As a student he won Student of the Year, and the BMW Cup for Excellence
in Osteopathy.
He has built up an extensive osteopathic practice in central Bristol for
over ten years.
To relax and unwind Ian loves all kinds of music and other art forms;
is a keen photographer and loves sailing. |
